Why do I need Accident Insurance?
Sometimes accidents become more than just "ouch." They can happen to anyone, at any age and at any time. A fall, participating in a favorite sport, a simple home repair or spilling a hot pan can result in a broken bone, a dislocation or a burn sending you to the doctor or even the hospital for medical care and back home with a bill for things that might not be fully covered by your primary insurance.
In addition to out-of-pocket expenses like deductibles and copays, you might also have to pay out of pocket for things like exams and x-rays.
Accidents can also create expenses that go far beyond the things you would normally think about. These expenses can include everything from:
- the cost of extra help with household chores if you are laid up;
- parking at treatment facilities, or cab or bus fare if you couldn't drive; or
- additional childcare.
Also, the normal household bills like mortgage, rent or car payments still need to be paid when you are injured.
What is Accident Insurance?
Accidents are unpredictable, that’s why they’re called accidents. Accident insurance helps cover you when the unpredictable happens. It pays a cash benefit when you have a covered accident. The money is paid directly to you, and you can use it in any way you please. It can be used for medical out-of-pocket expenses or to help with monthly bills like rent or car payments.
There is no good time to have an accident, but with Accident insurance, a physical injury doesn’t have to hurt your pocketbook.
